Ocean Capewell, LCSW  (she/her)

Ocean has worked in the behavioral health field since 2013. She has worked in residential, intensive outpatient, and outpatient settings. She works with adults, with a specialty in trauma and depression. She has many years of experience with people experiencing homelessness and incarceration. She is a member of the LGBTQ community and is LGBTQ and poly affirming.

Ocean’s style is eclectic, but deeply rooted in the narrative therapy approach. This approach reminds us that the person is not the problem—the problem is the problem. Your life is a story, not etched in stone. It can be edited. It can be changed. Your trauma is valid, and it can be integrated into the whole long narrative of a life.

Ocean has been trained extensively in DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy), although she practices more of a “cafeteria-style DBT”–take what works, leave the rest. She also actively works with her clients to avoid taking personal responsibility for systemic and institutional problems, and to build a life that feels worthwhile even in the face of systemic oppression.

Ocean completed her undergraduate work at SUNY Purchase. She received her Master’s of Social Work from Cal Poly Humboldt.
